To help you interpret TOEFL ITP Level 1 and Level 2 test scores, ETS has conducted several studies, including a score mapping study to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), a score descriptor study and a reliability study.
TOEFL ITP Scoring
How the tests are scored
The TOEFL ITP® Level 1 and Level 2 section scores are determined by the number of correct answers, which is converted to a scaled score. The score report provides scaled scores for the Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension sections.
The TOEFL ITP Speaking test scores are determined by the responses to the task prompts. Responses are scored using AI technology, which allows for immediate score reporting.
Detailed score reports
Detailed and comprehensive, TOEFL ITP score reports highlight what students have accomplished as English-language learners and where they are ready to improve.
Score reports are provided by the local ETS Preferred Network offices and include:
- individual information for your program to distribute to students
- institutional information and a score roster for internal use only
- total scores and section scores
Score validity
TOEFL ITP score reports are valid for 2 years. Because language proficiency can change considerably in a relatively short period of time, scores more than 2 years old cannot be reported or verified.
The TOEFL ITP® Plus for China solution is no longer being administered. Score reports for all tests taken will be valid for 2 years from the date the test was taken.
