Abstract

Data from 4824 boys and girls who participated in the NIH Collaborative Perinatal Project were analyzed for relationships between birth stress and lateral preference. No significant relationships were found for hand preference. However, breech birth, high birthweight, and right head position were associated with left eye preference in males. It is suggested that relationships between birth stress and lateral preference may possess a high degree of specificity.
