Gautam Puhan is the director for the Professional Educator Programs (PEP) group in the Research & Measurement Science area at ETS. He received his Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Alberta, Canada and a master’s in psychology from the University of Delhi, India.
He has coordinated/led the psychometric work (e.g., test score equating and item and test analyses) required for score reporting for several high-stakes testing programs such as those for the Praxis®, Texas, SAT Reasoning Test™, SAT Subject Test™, and PSAT/NMSQT® assessments. He has conducted research in the area of test score equating, differential item functioning, and reporting subscores. This research has been published in important journals such as Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, International Journal of Testing, and Journal of Educational Measurement. His research in the area of subscore reporting was recognized by the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), and he was awarded the NCME Award for Technical or Scientific Contribution to the Field of Educational Measurement (co-awarded with Sandip Sinharay and Shelby Haberman) in April 2009.
