As senior vice president of the Research & Development (R&D) division, Lawrence oversees functional areas including Assessment and Learning Technology Development, Research and Measurement Sciences, the Institute for Student Achievement, Global Assessment and Center for Research on Human Capital and Education, Professional Standards Compliance and Disability Policy, the Center for External Research, and the R&D Library as well as national assessments program coordination including the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP).
She began her career at ETS in statistical analysis where she designed and directed measurement work for the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and the SAT® tests. Before her appointment as senior vice president, she served as executive director of the SAT and PSAT/NMSQT programs, director of program research in R&D, and vice president of the Assessment Development area.
She holds a bachelor’s in psychology from Barnard College and a master's and doctorate in educational psychology from New York University.
She also serves on the board of Every Child Valued.
