Our researchers are Principle Investigators (PIs) on U.S. Department of Education and Institute for Education Sciences (IES) grants. They are investigating topics such as:
- how to leverage advances in automated writing evaluation and writing process analysis in middle school classrooms through an open-source, digital formative writing assessment dashboard that teachers use to identify next steps in instruction
- the use of process data on literacy and numeracy items to characterize response profiles and test-taking behaviors of low-skilled adults and improve instructional practices
- a theory and data-driven approach for identifying evidence of collaborative problem-solving skills
- classroom observation for peer feedback and reflection
- assessing the development of students' argumentation skills
- improving students' mathematics experiences, including how success impacts students' memories, motivation and engagement
