Hanwook (Henry) Yoo is a senior psychometrician at ETS. He worked has worked on several K-12 programs at ETS such as California State University (CSU) English Placement Test and Entry Level Math (EPT/ELM) and Early Assessment Program (EAP), Smarter Balanced, Wisconsin Badger Exam 3-8, Proficiency Assessments for Wyoming Students (PAWS), and English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). Currently he manages graduate admission programs and college programs including the GRE® General Test, GRE Subject Tests, Major Field Tests, and ETS® Proficiency Profile.
He earned his Ed.D. in research and evaluation methods from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (UMASS). He worked with faculty and senior staff at UMASS on the validation of a computer-based testing system for the Massachusetts Department of Education, investigated new item exposure controls and item selection procedures, and worked on single administration estimates of proficiency level classification decision consistency and decision accuracy. He also assembled a bibliography of research on test score reporting, which is available on the website for the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME).
His research interests involve applications of item response theory to the improvement of computer-based testing, innovative score reporting, and dimensionality of English language proficiency assessments. He has produced more than 10 publications including journal articles, book chapters, and a digital Instructional Topics in Educational Measurement Series (ITEMS) module from NCME. He has served as a reviewer for several international conferences and journals (e.g., editorial board member of Practical Assessment, Research, and Evaluation Online).
