Fred Yan is currently a product management lead in the National Assessment Program Coordination/NAEP-Client Services group in the Research & Development division at ETS. Previously, as a principal research data analyst, he contributed to national/ international large-scale assessment such as National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), and Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC); longitudinal studies such as Early Childhood Longitudinal Studies (ECLS); and various fundamental/exploratory research projects in ETS. He was the main developer of PSAT/NMSQT® diagnostic score report software. His interest has focused on applying state of the art technology to educational research and data management/analysis to help understand and improve learning outcome. He has a bachelor’s in engineering mechanics from Tianjin University and a master’s in civil engineering with computational fluid mechanics focus from Penn State University. He has also completed the course requirements for a master’s program in computer science in New Jersey Institute of Technology. He has been a member of American Education Research Association and IEEE.
